Trainings and knowledge sharing
PEEB’s objective is the scaling-up of approaches and solutions for energy efficiency in buildings. A strong training policy at the national level refers to initial education and professional training. It is essential to support the dissemination of good practices and improve the skills of all the stakeholders of the buildings and construction value chain. PEEB supports countries with different trainings aspects. These include the design of their national training policies as well as the development and delivery of training modules adapted to the local context and key stakeholders. Involved could be decision-makers of the public and private sectors, local authorities’ staff, investors, engineers, architects, and craftsmen.
Training on Integrated Planning of Energy Efficiency in Buildings Measures
This training is directed at architects, engineers, such as civil and HVAC engineers, technicians, energy advisors, energy service providers, staff of project developers and builders.
Participants will gain new knowledge and understanding about the design and construction of energy efficient buildings. The participants will acquire new technical skills regarding bioclimatic and passive design of buildings, renewable energy technologies, highly efficient heating-, ventilation- and air conditioning-systems and sustainable construction materials and technologies.
The training will also highlight the economic, social and environmental benefits and impacts of energy efficient buildings construction and its contribution to reduce energy consumption and GHG mitigation.
Furthermore, the training will impart knowledge on legal framework conditions, building regulations, codes and norms. Additionally trained soft skills will include: environmental awareness, benefits of energy efficient buildings, interdisciplinary planning and management.
Training on Implementation and Quality Assurance of Energy Efficiency in Buildings Measures
Target groups for this training include architects, engineers, such as civil and HVAC engineers, technicians, energy advisors, energy service providers, staff of project developers and builders as well as installers, maintainers of energy systems, supervisors and inspectors of the public and private sectors.
The training focusses on the correct installation, control and supervision as well as maintenance of energy efficient and sustainable construction techniques and technologies for thermal building envelopes and energy efficient and renewable energy systems. Participants will gain knowledge and understanding on how to upskill their occupations in the construction, installation and maintenance sector. Also, newly emerging occupations will be identified and highlighted.
Taught technical skills include correct installation of thermal insulation, highly efficient windows, shading, efficient cooling and heating systems, air tightness and electrical power and water conservation. Procedures and best practices regarding installation, maintenance, health and safety will be introduced. Additionally trained soft skills will include: environmental awareness, interdisciplinary planning and management.
Training on Financing Energy Efficiency in Buildings
This training is directed at decision-makers, managers and officers of the public administration related to NDC implementation and building sector as well as decision-makers, managers and officers of national development banks, commercial and intermediary banks and other financing institutions. It also addresses architects, energy advisors, energy service providers and staff of project developers and builders.
Decision makers and officers of public and private planning and financing institutions will gain knowledge and understanding about existing international climate financing and the available access opportunities. The development of public and private sector finance instruments for EE in buildings and the readiness to link national credit lines with international climate change financing for EE in buildings will be addressed.
More technical target groups, such as planners, engineers and energy service providers will gain specific know-how in the assessment of EE measures for buildings, the economic viability of adequate solutions and the preparation of EE projects ready for financing. The important role of energy advisors on assessing their public and private clients on providing services on energy consumption, energy savings and economic viability and bankability will be highlighted.
PEEB also disseminates knowledge to promote energy-efficiency among building sector professionals on the international level. A report on Business Models for Green Buildings exploring innovative property development case studies around the world was released in December 2019. It was followed by a short informational video highlighting the DBO Model (Design, Build, Operate), als known as Build-to-rent, which enables property developers to reap a benefit from investing in energy-efficiency.
